Welcoming Warmer Temperatures!

After a series of teasing 60 degree days followed by freezing cold, rain and snow, it appears that Spring may well be poised to arrive.  Spring, and its accompanying warmer weather, couldn’t come at a more opportune time, as the news in the housing market continues to be one of increased momentum, and an increase in home values that has even the most pessimistic of housing “experts” donning a more favorable outlook.  From the AHBA’s standpoint, we are seeing increased optimism too.  Our membership has been steadily increasing over the past several months; a sign that not only are those in the building trades more optimistic about the future, but  non-members have heard about what a special organization we all share, and want to be part of it.

April is a very busy month at the AHBA.  On April 17th, from noon to 2:00 p.m., Progress Energy will be hosting a Lunch and Learn session regarding their new Builder Incentive program for energy efficiency.  This program is free to members, but there is limited space, so sign up quickly.  This session also qualifies for ACE education hours.

April 20th and 21st is the 4th annual Home and Garden Expo at the Ag Center.  If you are participating as an Exhibitor and/or Sponsor, I want to personally Thank You for your support and wish you a very successful Expo.  Without you, efforts to provide our members with opportunities such as the Expo would be very difficult if not impossible.  Your support does not go unrecognized!

Lastly, I want to take a moment to mention a very special program that the AHBA is sponsoring this year.   Six Buncombe County High Schools are participating in the first year of the Playhouse Showdown.  Each School designed and built a play home for entry into the completion.  Each school is selling raffle tickets, and the School that sells the most raffle tickets will be the winner of the Showdown.  Tickets are $5 each.  Two dollars of each ticket goes directly back to the CTE program for that school and the remaining will go towards scholarships for students at each school. The Playhoues will be on display at the Expo, so come out and support this VERY worthwhile program!

I look forward to joining you at upcoming events!
